About Me

My name is Patti Merrill and my passion is taking pictures that capture the moments in your life that tell your story and allow you to relive them whenever you want!

I grew up as the daughter of a photographer. My Dad was passionate about taking pictures. We had a darkroom in our basement where I remember spending hours watching him develoop his black and white photographs. We have literally thousands of images that Dad took! Recently, to create a slideshow of his life for his funeral, I had the choice experience of going through all of these pictures and reliving the many wonderful memories that have been preserved for us through his photography. Dad took pictures of his family and friends, of the Colorado snow storms, of the changing aspens, of mountains and oceans, lakes and rivers, of flowers that he grew in his garden, of other people’s families, of weddings. . .of anything that he possibly could!

It wasn’t until I was in college that I discovered that this passion for photography had been passed on to me. I began to see the world in a different way and couldn’t get enough of being behind a camera! I worked for a chain studio for awhile, but quickly became bored with the lack of creativity that I was allowed to utilize. This is when I started to work with my Dad. We went to weddings together, we went to the mountains together. We took pictures of anything that we possibly could! It was wonderful! I have been passionate about taking pictures ever since!

Over the past 20 years, I have worked with amny incredibly talented photographer and artists. I have learned so much from them. I have worked in many different studios and learned how to and how not to do business. I ahve taken classes, invested time and money and energy into learning how to be the best photographer that I can be. And I continue to do so. I have spent hundreds of hours studying portraiture, lighting and composition. I have spent hundreds of hours behind the camera. I have come to see in my mind’s eye first what you will see in print. It brings me much joy and satisfaction to capture moments in time and preserve them for you and your posterity to enjoy!

I am also a graphic designer and have taken many classes to improve my skills as such. I can help you with designing and printing just about anything that you could want!

I AM A PHOTOGRAPHER. I AM AN ARTIST. AND I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT I DO!

  1. Well done.

  2. Hisashiburi Grant Shimai :-)
    (guess that’s now Merrill Shimai)

I was thinking about you today – if I remember correctly your birthday is this coming weekend – and you’ve been on my mind recently. I tried to access your website listed on the Japan Nagoya Mission Alumni website – but apparently that link is no longer valid. So I Googled you and behold here you are!! By the way – you have a great website!!

It looks like you are doing well with your photography business. I hope all is also going well with you and your family. Tell Merrill Choro hello for me. From this website I see you are living in Colorado.

I am still living in Bountiful, Utah – and work at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. I am a “discussion leader” (teacher) in my family ward Relief Society – it is a great calling!! :-)

I gave up on attending the singles wards about five years ago after my Mom passed away. After such a long time of *not* being in a family ward – it took some getting used to. But I am really enjoying it. My Dad passed away just this past year – and I have received so much love and support from my family ward – I am truly blessed to be here at this time.

I am now the owner of my parent’s home that I grew up in. It is an interesting journey, that of being a homeowner. It seems that there is always something that needs to be repaired or improved. I like to call it my “money pit” :-)

Anyway – I just wanted to wish you an early Happy Birthday. If you are ever in Utah – let me know and I’ll take you to dinner!!

  3. Why don’t you have pictures of your family? Just a thought. :)

P.S. I love your pictures! THEY ARE BY FAR THE BEST… EVER!!!
